Clean room laboratory inaugurated |

STUDSAT, the first pico-satellite of India, which is being developed by the students from a consortium of seven colleges was reviewed by Prof. UR Rao, former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization on August 7, 2009 at the Institute. It was one of the 3 reviews made by Prof. Rao, which mainly involved demonstration of all the working satellite subsystems.
The review was followed by the inauguration of newly built clean room laboratory at NMIT. The laboratory is being used for satellite subsystem development and its integration.

A 3-day workshop on Micro / Nano Science & Technology was jointly organized by the Departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from July 27 to 29, 2009. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Vasudev Kalkunte Aatre, Dept. of Electrical Communication, IISc, Bangalore.
There were 11 resource persons from IISc-Prof. KN Bhat, Prof. SB Krupanidhi, Prof. Venugopal, Prof. Navakant Bhat, Prof. SA Shiva Shankar, Prof. Sampath, Prof. Rudrapratap, Prof. Praveen Ramamurthy and Prof. Roy Mahapatra.

Digital Image Processing for Beginners-Algorithm and Code Development |

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a 3-day short term course on Digital Image Processing for Beginners-Algorithm and Code Development during July 13 to 24, 2009. The resource person for the programme was Dr. Jharna Majumdar, Dean(R&D), Professor, Dept. of CS&E, NMIT. The course covered the fundamentals and basic algorithms on digital image processing. The hands-on sessions provided the opportunity to implement the algorithms.
Staff and students from the college as well as from other colleges participated in the programme.

Ms. Sreesudha B and Ms. Hitha Nanjappa, of the IV semester Mechanical Engineering branch, were awarded Fellowship by the Mechanical Engineering Department, IISc, under their Summer Undergraduate Mentorship in Mechanical Engineering Research (SUMMER) 2009, to carry out a research project for eight weeks during the semester holidays (June 15th to August 14th).
Both the projects were supervised by Prof. JH Arakeri, Chairman, ME Department, IISc, Bangalore. Ms. Sreesudha B carried out a project on Study of flow through mechanical heart valves and Ms. Hitha Nanjappa on Cooling effect by passive water evaporation in an open shelter.

Paedagogy was conducted from Jan 29 to 31. A panel discussion was held wherein difficulties faced by lecturers were discussed. Dr. M Prakash, Principal, Institute of Management, Sheshadhipuram, Bangalore, Prof. R Victor, Principal, Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Bangalore, Prof. Ranganaath Setty, Dean (Academic), NMIT, and Dr. PG Mukunda, Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NMIT were the resource persons.

Computational Fluid Dynamics-A potential engineering design tool by the Mechanical Engineering dept. was conducted from Jan 24 to 27. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. HC Nagaraj, Prinicpal of NMIT. The workshop included lectures and hands-on training on CFD Software coding.

the developments in Metallography was held from Jan 20 to 22. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sundarmurthy, MD, FenFee Metallurgical, Bangalore. He spoke on the latest methodologies in preparing the metallographic analysis.

the latest developments in centrifugal casting was held from Jan 13 and 14. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. CHV Rao, Associate Manager(R&D), Rapshri Foundry Industries, Bangalore.

IRIS-the forum of E & C dept. organised a 3-day workshop on Recent trends in Wireless & Wired Communications from Feb 19 to 21. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. TS Vedavathi, Retd. Professor, IISc, Bangalore.

A 3-day workshop on Programmable system on Chip was organised by the IEEE Students Chapter, NMIT from Jan 19 to 21.
Modelling of Power systems and Facts controller
The Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering conducted a workshop on Modelling of Power systems and Facts controller from Jan 22 to 24. The chief guest was Dr. Suresh Jangam Shetti, Principal, Amrutha Institute of Engineering and Management.
Foundations of Signal Processing and Control Systems
A 4-day workshop on Foundations of Signal Processing and Control Systems was organised by the Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering from January 21 to 24.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. CP Ravikumar, Director, University Relations, TI India. Prof. NR Shetty, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University and President of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi presided over the function.
Dr. Ravikumar delivered the keynote address and a lecture on Semiconductor innovation for tomorrow"s medicine.
